About Hal & Mal's

Hal & Mal's is a Jackson landmark that has been serving the community since 1985. Founded by brothers Hal and Malcolm White this iconic venue occupies a historic GM&O freight depot building in downtown Jackson. The establishment seamlessly blends the roles of restaurant bar and live music venue creating a vibrant gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

Multiple Performance Spaces

Hal & Mal's features several distinct music venues within its walls. The Red Room hosts local regional and national touring acts with ticketed shows throughout the week. The Dining Room provides an intimate setting for regular performances including Tuesday Night Jazz and various acoustic acts. The Big Room accommodates larger events and concerts. The venue also includes a Brew Pub and The Walk-In space for additional entertainment options.

Regular Music Programming

The venue hosts an impressive array of weekly recurring events. Blue Monday takes place every Monday night in the Red Room featuring the Central Mississippi Blues Society's jam session from 7-11 PM. Tuesday nights bring jazz with the Raphael Semmes Quartet in the Dining Room. Select Fridays feature bluegrass nights. Karaoke runs Monday nights in The Walk-In. The venue also hosts weekly trivia nights.

Cuisine and Atmosphere

The restaurant serves Gulf Coast-centric cuisine with a menu that includes seafood gumbo red beans and rice po-boys hand-patted burgers and fresh seafood dishes like the Redfish Pearl and Vancleave Po-boy. Happy hour runs Monday through Saturday from 4-6:30 PM. The interior is filled with photographs posters and memorabilia celebrating Jackson's cultural heritage.

History and Legacy

After the passing of co-founder Hal White in 2013 the venue continued under Malcolm White's stewardship. In 2022 ownership transitioned to Damien Cavicchi and Mary Sanders Ferriss Cavicchi who also own Campbell's Bakery with Malcolm remaining involved. The venue supports approximately 12 families and employs staff members who have been with the establishment for 10 15 and even 20 years.

Special Events

Hal & Mal's serves as the official afterparty location for Hal's St. Paddy's Parade one of Jackson's biggest annual celebrations. The venue hosts the New Year's Eve Catfish Ball and numerous other special events throughout the year.
