About Sky Bar
Sky Bar is a unique solar-powered venue that operates as a cafe by day and an astronomy bar by night. Located in Tucson's West University neighborhood along Fourth Avenue - the venue embodies environmental consciousness while providing a creative space for artists and musicians.
Music Programming
Sky Bar hosts a diverse array of weekly music events. Every Wednesday night features their popular open mic from 7 PM to midnight - welcoming musicians - poets - comedians - and experimental performers. Sign-ups begin at 5:30 PM day-of - either at the venue or by calling. Set lengths range from 5-15 minutes depending on the number of performers.
Mondays feature Skyraoke (karaoke) from 8:30-11:59 PM with a 24000-song library displayed on three big screens. Friday and Saturday nights bring live indie artists and DJs - all shows are free. The last Sunday of each month hosts benefit events supporting local organizations.
Atmosphere and Features
The venue's dual identity creates a welcoming space for all ages before 4 PM - transforming into a 21+ space with adult supervision allowed for minors after 4 PM. The outdoor patio features telescopes for stargazing - often staffed by amateur astronomers on Saturday nights. This unique amenity has earned Sky Bar recognition in the New York Times' 36 Hours in Tucson feature.
The space combines comfortable indoor seating with an expansive outdoor patio. As a solar-powered establishment - Sky Bar demonstrates commitment to sustainability while maintaining a lively creative atmosphere. The venue serves drinks and food from the adjacent Brooklyn Pizza Company.
Community Hub
Sky Bar has become a gathering place for Tucson's creative community - particularly students and artists. The open mic nights foster mentorship and collaboration among performers of varying experience levels. The venue's inclusive booking policy and free events make it accessible to a wide audience.
