MOAH:CEDAR - Lancaster Museum of Art and History Cedar Center
Historical Significance
The Cedar Center for the Arts is a restored historical building originally constructed in the 1920s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For nearly a century it served as the civil and social center of the Antelope Valley from the 1920s through the late 1950s housing the County Center sheriff's office health center and library. In recent years the center underwent major restoration to preserve its original Art Deco character and architectural significance.
Facility Overview
The newly restored complex comprises multiple distinct areas including the MOAH:CEDAR Art Gallery the Cedar Memorial Hall and dedicated arts classroom spaces. The facility is available for rental for private events while remaining a vibrant community cultural venue.
Performance and Music Programming
MOAH:CEDAR hosts regular Spotlight Cafe open mic nights held on the fourth Friday of each month from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The monthly open mic features all genres including music poetry dance and performance art. All local talent is welcome with a five-minute limit per performer. Basic microphones and audio playback equipment are provided.
The Cedar Memorial Hall hosts a monthly Concert Series featuring local musicians and performers with free admission. The venue includes a Board Game Cafe and hosts live figure drawing sessions for community members of all skill levels.
Community Arts Programming
Beyond performance events MOAH:CEDAR offers free live figure drawing classes beginner sessions with clothed models held the second Sunday of each month. Zine workshops and art exhibitions run throughout the year. Young artist workshops designed for youth 17 and younger are held monthly on the second Thursday based on current gallery exhibitions.
Gallery Exhibitions
MOAH:CEDAR features rotating art exhibitions celebrating diverse media and artistic practices. The gallery space showcases local and emerging artists through carefully curated shows and special programming.
