Venue Overview
The Hog Wallow Pub is a legendary 21+ establishment with a storied history dating back to 1947. Located at the base of Big Cottonwood Canyon and secluded among pine trees this venue sits kitty-corner to the historic Old Mill ruin representing the latest incarnation of the oldest and most notorious bar in the Cottonwood Heights area.
History
The venue was established when a returning World War II veteran converted an abandoned Civilian Conservation Corps bunkhouse into an out-of-the-way watering hole originally named The Branding Iron. Over the decades the bar has operated under several names including The Wagon Wheel Demete's The Fox and Bottle Inn and D.J.'s Beer Garden before becoming The Hog Wallow Pub in 1997. The venue is named after a rapid on the Green River.
Music Programming
Hog Wallow features live music Wednesday through Saturday with Monday nights dedicated to open jam sessions starting at 9:00 PM. The venue showcases a diverse range of genres including rock jazz blues reggae bluegrass and Americana. Bands and performers can sign up to jam with house musicians creating an inclusive environment for both seasoned professionals and emerging artists.
Atmosphere and Features
Housed in a cozy log cabin the venue features an intricate wood carving of a woman behind the bar that catches the eye of first-time visitors. The pub offers both indoor seating and a popular outdoor patio that has been recognized as one of the best in Salt Lake City. The mountain setting combined with the rustic log cabin atmosphere creates a unique après-ski destination and community gathering place.
Food and Drink
The Hog Wallow offers what many consider the best bar food in town featuring an extensive menu of American grill items and regional pizzas. Specialties include house-smoked wings smoked ribs house-made chili pimento cheese spread and elevated burgers. The pub maintains an extensive list of spirits beer and wine with particular focus on bourbon whiskey and craft beers.

Since opening in its current form Hog Wallow has received numerous accolades including City Search's Best Outdoor Bar City Weekly's Best Neighborhood Bar and Best Escape From Downtown and Salt Lake Magazine's Best Suburban Bar.
