Community Coffee Shop and Cultural Hub

Flava Coffee & Cafe is a women-owned community coffee shop and cafe creating opportunities for young women and gender expansive youth of color. Located in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood - Flava represents economic empowerment - community development - and cultural preservation.

Mission and Vision

The cafe's mission is to invest in young women of color and gender expansive youth by cultivating a culture of care in a community that centers equity and opportunity. Flava Cafe Co. propels young people from coffee to career - ensuring safety - radical imagination - and representation.

Space and Atmosphere

The cafe features modern yet creative decor showcasing local Black artists - comfortable seating including couches - and a welcoming environment. Named coffee drinks honor Black feminist icons including Bell Hooks - Nina Simone - and Angela Davis. The menu includes locally sourced savory items - breakfast options - and lunch selections.

Music and Events

Flava hosts the weekly Re-Verb Open Mic every Thursday evening from 6-8pm in partnership with TruArt Speaks. The event features soul-stirring music - poetry - and community connection. DJ JUST NINE performs on the first Thursday of each month. The space is available for private events and celebrations.

Recognition and Community Impact

In 2024 - Flava Cafe received the Alice O'Brien Business Award from the City of Saint Paul - honoring a women-owned business committed to equity and empowerment. The cafe is conveniently located on the Green Line Dale Street light rail stop across from the Rondo library.
